RE: On The Road To Alaska

From Ft Nelson on up to Tok..it gets a little worse as you go,but there are still the area's that you can drive 55-60 mph. After Tok it kinda comes and goes{the frost heaves I mean}but seems to get a little better. We tried to see The Mountain in Denali, but she wouldn't show herself for the 2 days we were there. They said she only comes out for about 20% of the year, you just have to be there at the right time.Currently on our way to Deep Creek,Probly for a week or so..startin Sat. night.Maybe we'll see some of you there!! Steve & Teresa
Hey Steve & Teresa,
Keep an eye out for us. We're leaving Seward tomorrow 6/14 and heading for the Alaskan Angler in Ninilchik for a couple of weeks. We don't check in there until Monday so will just stay wherever for the next two nights...do a little open exploration of the coastline from Kenai to Homer I guess.
We hope to meet you sometime...safe travels!

RE: On The Road To Alaska

We are on our second day to get to Alaska. Made it to Madras, Oregon. We do have a problem and if some of you can help us with it we would be grateful. How are the fueling stations along the way? We seem to have a problem with size. Our rig is new and is a 42' so we have a bit of a problem with smaller stations that only serve the cars. Will this be a problem on the highways in BC and Alaska? My hubby is quite worried about this.
Happy trails to all and good travelin'
Jeannie
borntotravel,
We just reached Alaska a week ago and found 95% of the stations through Canada and in Alaska to be entirely adequate for the fueling of big rigs...none of this pump-pointed-into-foodstore stuff around here! Most of the stations along the Alaska Hwy are wide open lots with no overhead and no access problems whatsoever, and almost all have diesel...pricy, but available.
Tell hubby not to worry at all!!!
Have a safe trip and keep an eye on our journal so you can look us up when you arrive.

RE: On The Road To Alaska

Hey foggymtn,
We'll be at River's Edge also in a couple days! Ours is just a "preflight" before we get going on our summer trips, but we like to spend a weekend close by the house the first trip of the year (case anything unforseen should arise!) But we'll stop by and say howdy while we're there to be sure!
If you see a black F350 dually with "Tow Twuck" front license plate (TOWTWK on the rear) and an RV.net sticker in the rear window, that'll be us!
ak_traveler...
We look forward to seeing you here!
We're in and out a lot, but will be spending a little time in camp getting some of those pesky domestic duties taken care of.
Take care,
Gordon

RE: On The Road To Alaska

We stayed in Blue Spruce Campground in Prince George, very rutted and we were told that we had wi-fi from the campsite but not. The trees are not trimmed and not good for a Class A hard to get around in the park.
We stayed at the South Park RV Park in Prince George a little over a week ago...if you head back that way, give that a try. It was real nice with level spaces, plenty of room for larger rigs, and the WiFi worked fine.
We are currently in Whitehorse, YT, at the Hi Country RV Park...another good place. We will be on the way to Destruction Bay on Saturday and on to Tok, AK, on Sunday.
Safe travels,
Gordon and Juanita

RE: On The Road To Alaska

We just arrived at the Yukon Motel and RV Park in Teslin, YT...nothing fancy, but not a bad place for a one night stop. We will spend the next three nights in Whitehorse, one night in Destruction Bay, and get into Alaska on Sunday.
We hope to see some of you along the way.
Safe travels,
Gordon and Juanita

RE: On The Road To Alaska

We arrived this afternoon at the South Park RV Park near Prince George, BC, along Hwy 97. This is a great place to stay with full hookups and $$$$ WiFi if you are heading to Alaska from this direction.
On to Dawson Creek on Wednesday 5/14 for one night.
Safe travels everyone!

RE: On The Road To Alaska

Howdy,
We just crossed into BC at Sumas, WA, today and are spending two nights in Hope. We will continue up Hwy 1 to Hwy 97 beginning on Sunday and hope to reach Dawson Creek next Wednesday or Thursday and on to the AK border by the 25th. Fuel is $1.25 per liter here in Hope.
We look forward to seeing you all along the way.
Safe travels everyone!
